Cold Chain Packaging for Your Products
A cold chain packaging is basically a series of steps, storage, shipping,
distribution, and cooling procedures, all performed at regulated temperatures.
Cold chain maintenance maintains the optimum shelf lives of products, food,
seafood, pharmaceuticals, and any other goods that need to be keeping in
constant cool or cold temperature to keep their quality.
Cold chains do not
only protect the products they are used for, but also help keep our environment
safe. They can even save a lot of money in the long run, as they can help reduce
transportation costs by preventing product spoilage during transportation. A
cold chain has four basic steps, with each step being further separated into
sections for further analysis and maintenance.
Cold storage requires
the container of the product to be placed inside a cold chamber where the
product is allowed to reach an ambient temperature of -40 degrees Fahrenheit.
After reaching this temperature, the product is cooled to its liquid form. The
liquid is then passed through a freezer coil, which is designed to create an
oscillation of negative and positive forces so that the product remains in its
liquid state throughout the process. Click here to know more.
The next cold chain,
freezing, is the procedure of turning the product from liquid to gas. In this
stage, the product is heated and compressed to form a solid state. This is done
by passing the product through a heating element, which heats the material to
its liquid form, again through the use of an oscillating force. Finally, the
product is returned to ambient temperature and refrigerated to prevent further
spoilage.
The final cold chain,
packaging, is used when the product has already been frozen and packaged for
shipping. Once the product has been frozen, it is transferred into its box,
which contains the necessary packing material for the safe shipping of the
product. The packaging material includes bubble wrap, a Styrofoam lining, or
polystyrene foam. The bubble wrap allows the product to be protected during
transportation and the Styrofoam liner and polystyrene foam
allows the product to be able to be easily transported, especially if the
product has an odour-causing chemical in it. Cold chain transportation makes
it easier to deliver goods that are already packed and prepared for shipment
than it does to unpack products and deliver them.
Proper care and
maintenance are required for the cold chain for all of these processes. The
manufacturer will be able to provide this information, depending on their
specific products.
Proper care and
maintenance are critical to ensure the long shelf life of the product as well
as the overall safety of the environment. Most products have limited shelf
life, as the chemicals used in food packaging. Therefore, the manufacturer will
require that the product should be stored or packaged properly to keep it safe
to consume.
To learn more about
your manufacturer's product, it is recommended that you contact their customer
service to ask any questions you may have about storing or packaging products.
The retailer that ships products for your manufacturer may also be able to
assist you, however there may be additional charges. When shipping products for
a company that ships internationally, it is highly recommended that the product
be shipped from a reputable, trustworthy shipper. This way, you can be sure to
get your money's worth from your cold chain packaging and shipping services.
Depending on the
packaging material used in the product, it may need to be cleaned at times,
depending on the type of product. For example, if it is a food product, then
the product itself should not be washed with a detergent, but instead should be
cleaned with a mild cleaning product that is non-abrasive, such as a soft cloth
or soap and water. If the product is a medical product, then it may need to be
stored in a freezer to kill any microorganisms before the packaging material is
used again, especially if the product is a wound dressing for a wound or other
similar product.
In most cases, the
packaging material will be placed inside a plastic bag for transportation.
However, it will not be used until the product is already completely frozen. If
you want to avoid the use of packaging materials to store your product until it
is already frozen, then you can place the product inside a Ziploc bag with a
little bit of ice on top. This will keep the product inside a safe and cold
condition until you are ready to use it.
There is also the
option of wrapping the product for shipping so that it does not need to be
stored, and then wrapping it inside a Ziploc bag. Once the product has been
received by the retailer, it will be stored for at least three to six weeks,
depending on how the product is packaged. If you have a high-risk product that
may spoil within this time, you may need to call the retailer before the
product is received, so that they can advise you about any packaging materials
that are needed.
